15-year-old boy killed in train strike in Point Pleasant Beach

The Jersey Shore family and community are mourning a 15-year-old boy who died after being hit by a train in Point Pleasant Beach over the weekend.

The family identified the boy as Raul Cartagena. He celebrated his 15th birthday on July 13th, a month before his birthday.

The New Jersey Transit Police said the boy was killed around 4:30 pm on Sunday. He was hit by a train on his North Jersey Coastline at the intersection of Foreman’s Avenue. Cartagena was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

On Monday morning, friends and family erected a memorial at the site. They say Cartagena was about to enter high school and was expected to be on the wrestling team.

A GoFundMe page created for funeral expenses described the teenager as “a shining light to our family friends, he always had a smile on his face and made us smile even in the darkest of days.” I knew how to bring it,” he explains.

That GoFundMe has already exceeded its goal.

The Superintendent of Point Pleasant Borough School District issued the following statement: The student died yesterday in a tragic accident. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and our entire community during this difficult time. ”

We will open a consultation desk for students and faculty members.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
