17-year-old charged with murder in NJ Deli shooting


The Mercer County Attorney’s Office announced that a 17-year-old Trenton man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 54-year-old man in a deli.

Police arrived at the Priory’s Deli at 301 Hillcrest Avenue around 6:00 am on June 6 and found the two brothers with gunshot wounds. A 17-year-old boy pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money, officials said.

A teenage boy wearing a black mask opened fire on the brothers, grazing one on the forehead and punching another in the chest and abdomen, police said.

Trenton’s Oscar Palacios was later pronounced dead in hospital, police said. The second victim, he was a 57-year-old Trenton man who was released after being hospitalized. The two men are brothers and deli employees.

The boy then fled the scene on his bicycle. The boy’s identity was determined from surveillance footage of the surrounding area at the time of the shooting.

The teenage girl has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, felony murder, burglary, and firearm crimes. He is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.
