9-year-old LIE crash victim taken off life support, donates organs

A special memorial service was held at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital for a 9-year-old boy who died in a suspected DUI.

Angel Salas was on life support so that his organs could be used to save others.

Angel’s mother, Julianna Salas, said drivers need to make “good choices.”

“We can only be responsible for our own choices, and even if we love our families and children, we cannot control the actions of others.

Salas was taken off life support on Sunday, and all the hospital employees lined the hallway for a walk of honor as Angel’s body was taken to the operating room.

Travis Dixon was driving his 2018 BMW westbound on the Long Island Expressway in Farmingville at around 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 22 when his car turned into a 2019 Toyota Corolla. Police say he was hit.

Deer Park’s Salas’ father, Toyota driver Bruce Koch, 49, was treated for minor injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Dixon was charged with DUI and was also treated at Stony Brook University Hospital.
