An Oregon couple was lucky when they were still able to cash in on their winning lottery ticket after they mistook it for a dog chew toy.
It’s not uncommon for lotteries in Oregon to receive tickets covered in mud after being run through the washing machine, and even more oddly disfigured tickets. In a press release on Thursday, Aug. 11, they said this was the first time that officials had been able to gather all the parts needed to determine the ticket’s status. “For some reason I left the ticket on the ottoman and they decided it was delicious,” Ramette said of her dogs, 2-year-old Jack and 11-month-old Apple. . “I slept, and when I woke up, I was eaten so much that I couldn’t find out.”
But her husband Nathan thought it was “funny” and someone in the lottery might get a good laugh.
The Oregon lottery allows winning tickets to be mailed, so the couple decided to send the broken ticket along with a photo of the puppy and a note detailing what had happened.

Surprisingly, the Oregon Lottery was able to reverse the rest of the tickets, and the $3 Pharaoh’s Gold Crossword ultimately brought the couple $8.
“It’s just too funny,” Ramet said when he learned they’d be receiving checks in the mail.
They put that money towards chew toys for their furry friends. “They go through a lot,” she explained. “We love them, but they’re crazy sometimes.”
