Alex Jones seems to have prepared for the worst in his trial for victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
The “Infowars” host has sold a $3 million estate in Austin, Texas, to his wife, Erica Wolfe-Jones, according to public property records.
On Aug. 5, a controversial conspiracy theorist ordered more than $45 million to be paid to the parents of one of the victims of a 2012 school shooting that killed 20 children and six adults. Ordered by a Texas jury.
The ruling awarded Jones $4.1 million in compensatory damages for alleging that the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting was a hoax to boost support for gun control. It was served the next day as well.
Jones’ attorney, Andino Raynal, had requested a fine of no more than $300,000. “You’ve already sent the message, the first ever message to talk show hosts, all talk show hosts, that their standards of care must change,” Raynal said.
Jones testified that if he borrowed more than $2 million, he would “destroy” Infowars’ parent company. But an economist hired by the plaintiffs estimated the value of Jones and his company at his $270 million, and Jones faced a default judgment in a lawsuit last year, so he’s making his case for himself. Estimated to have withdrawn $62 million.
Over the past year, he’s been getting his finances in order, including his real estate assets.
Last month, Jones filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after facing legal troubles. Meanwhile, he transferred his property to his wife.
It is unclear how he plans to pay for the amount ordered. The post is asking for comments.
