Following his commitment to play college football in Texas in June, Arch Manning returned to the high school football field, picking up where he left off after his junior season.
His notable start to the 2022 campaign with Isidore Newman followed Friday night, scoring five total touchdowns in Riverside’s 42-20 loss.
Manning and his team got off to a lukewarm start in the first half of the non-district competition. Isidore Newman breathed new life out of the locker room in the third quarter, even though he was one point down at halftime.
Isidore Newman, led by star quarterback, scored 28 of the first 34 points of the second half to seal the win. Manning was near-perfect in the passing game, and the contest ended with him going 19-22 for his 221 yards and his four touchdowns. Two of his three imperfections were drops.
The highlight of the night was when the senior quarterback scored an 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Friday night’s performance built off of his season debut when Manning threw three touchdowns in the Greenies’ 35-14 victory over Harnville.
“We knew it was going to be a good game and this is an old rivalry. They had really good running backs and it was definitely a fun game.” Afterwards, Manning said: “They had a good game plan to take the ball away from us, but I think we took our chances and only hit one punt. “
Going into his senior season, Manning threw for over 6,300 yards and 81 touchdowns while rushing for over 740 yards and 19 touchdowns during his high school career. He ranks his 10th in the SI All-American’s pre-season SI99 ranking.
