Assistance rushes to family of Stepinak student killed in hit-and-run accident

The tight-knit Yonkers neighborhood is trying to cope after a hit-and-run accident that killed a 16-year-old boy.

Police said they received a call about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday that a scooter driver had been hit head-on by a cargo van on the 600 block of McLean Avenue.

First responders found 16-year-old Christopher Jack Hackett, better known as CJ, on the ground with a serious head injury.

News 12 reported that Doran left the scene afterward, and a witness called 911.

Dolan was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of the accident that left him injured and killed, and is expected to return to court on August 12.

If convicted on this charge, he could go to prison for up to seven years.

State legislators and church leaders say they are trying to help bring a sense of closure to the Hacketts.

State Senator Shelley Mayer said, “We who were elected will do everything we can for this family, the people who loved him, and this community I represent.” .

According to CJ’s father, the Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, called and prayed for his family.

Archbishop Stepinak, a late-teenage school, is holding a special event in his memory on Friday and offering counseling to help all students cope. His father is grateful for the support .

“Woodlawn community, Yonkers community…our East Durham community was our rock.My incredible son donates his organs. They call it the Walk of Life. I don’t expect anything from such a sweetie.A wonderful son.”
