Bernallio County Halfway to Fund Sports Complex Development at Mesa del Sol


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalío County is pushing again to build a sports complex on the Mesa del Sol. Additional funding for the project will be put on his November ballot as part of the county’s $40 million bond package. There are currently 6 fields and plans for about 20 more.

The bond also adds much-needed facilities such as bathrooms, locker rooms, concessions, parking and landscaping. This is all part of his $38 million project to build a regional sports complex to attract large tournaments and tourists. The bond also includes his $11 million in parks. The county has reached almost half of its funding.

“We rely on the department telling us what our priorities are. We go to Santa Fe every year for funding, so we have a very fresh and current understanding of what projects need how much funding.” said Clay Campbell, County Manager Chief of Staff.

Tom Tenorio Park will also see millions toward its makeover. . The biggest item on the park’s bond list is his $4 million towards a new pool at the Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center near 4th and Alameda.
