The Bills kicked off their preseason game against the Broncos on Saturday with a special tribute to Florida International linebacker Luke Knox, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 22.
Buffalo held a minute’s silence before kickoff for Knox, brother of tight end Dawson Knox. CBS play-by-play announcer Andrew Catalon announced that Dawson, who is in his fourth season with the Bills, will not attend the game and will be out of the team indefinitely.
Dawson expressed gratitude For the support his family received in a tweet on Friday.
“Thank you for your love and support for my family,” he said.
FIU coach Mike McIntyre confirmed the news of Knox’s passing on Thursday morning, just before the program was announced on social media. Then I transferred to FIU.
“Words cannot express the heartfelt grief we feel at the loss of our teammate and friend Luke Knox.” McIntyre saidhe also spent a year with Knox while he was with the Rebels. I just remember, Luke’s family means a lot to me and will always be in my heart and prayers during this difficult time.”
Bills coach Sean McDermott also extended his condolences to the Knox family during a media session Thursday afternoon. Since then, he has coached Dawson Knox.
“My heart goes out to Dawson and his family at this time.” McDermott said“We are with him to support him and his family. We love him and support him.”
