Black String is named after the Korean zither Geomungo and also includes percussion, bamboo flute, guitar and electronica. The group has created a unique musical language that incorporates traditional Korean music, jazz, and free improvisation, presenting extraordinary and enigmatic music that oscillates comfortably between East and West. The quartet is a South Korean educator, artistic director of Seoul’s Bukchung Changwoo Theater, and one of the few female masters of Gomungo (the traditional Korean zither, the inspiration for the band’s name).
