Bus driver shortage impacts schedules in East Brunswick School District

The East Brunswick School District is off to a rocky start with a shortage of bus drivers impacting their schedules.

It seems that not only students are affected, but also those who are parents, sports teams, and bus drivers, and in some cases, their job responsibilities have doubled.

Notice sent to parents in East Brunswick states that the following bus routes will be delayed by approximately 30-40 minutes.

CH0007 AM/PM
FR0009AM
FR0010AM/PM
IR0009AM/PM
IR0010AM
LB0005AM/PM
WA0005AM/PM

Schools affected are Churchill, Irwin, Frost, Waarnsdorfer and Lawrence Brooke.

The notice told parents that the bus driver shortage was due to unexpected retirement and illness. The district is working to alleviate the shortage, but that could take weeks and will affect certain bus routes.

Bus routes will be consolidated where possible now and in the near future, with buses doubling for additional student transfers as needed. Parents are notified daily of changes that affect their children.

All middle school athletic practice will be canceled today, except for the middle school cross-country, to practice at Churchill, according to the athletic director.
