Canadian health worker drowns in Facebook livestream

Last week, a healthcare worker drowned in a pool during a Facebook livestream, terrorizing her family and friends in Kenya.

Helen Nyavto, 24, died Thursday while swimming in a motel pool in Chatsworth, Ontario, according to the Toronto Star.

Nyabuto is smiling in an undated photo.
Nyabuto immigrated to Canada from Kenya in 2018 and worked at a nursing home.

According to the newspaper, Nyabuto was live-streaming the fatal incident and was seen swimming from the shallow end of the pool with a smile and talking to online viewers.

After moving to the deepest part, she appeared to be struggling, and after moving out of the stream’s frame, a voice calling for help was heard.

The feed then went silent for hours until other motel-goers entered the pool and discovered Nyavut’s dead body. The livestream has since been removed from Facebook.

An undated photo was taken of Nyabuto smiling and walking down the sidewalk.
A friend said Nyabu was sending money to her family in Africa.

According to the outlet, Nyabuto immigrated to Canada in 2018 and worked at a long-term care facility in the northwestern suburbs of Toronto.

“Helen was the breadwinner for the family back home. She’s been supporting them, but there’s been a big gap,” Alfons Nyamwaya, a close friend of Nyavut, was reportedly told.

“She worked with her seniors until the end,” she added. “She was really passionate about it.”

Nyavut has not returned to her home country since moving abroad and loved ones were trying to raise enough money to move her body back home while planning to come to Toronto, Nyamwaya said. I told you.

“We need prayers. We need financial support.”

A friend and former college classmate also told the newspaper that Nyamwaya’s family wanted to dispel rumors circulating in Kenya that her death was the result of cheating.

“May the family rest in peace. May Helen rest. It was an accident.”
