Dunkirk — The Chadwick Bay Softball Bash Tournament was held along the shores of Dunkirk this weekend.
The visiting 16U and 14U women’s fastpitch teams enjoyed great competition and the comfort of the area.
A total of 38 games were contested on four fields in the city of Dunkirk.Meanwhile, Little League Complex, School 7 Field and “stadium” Dunkirk High School’s athletic complex, which has seen most of the action, was home to several hotly contested playoff games on Sunday.
When the chaos subsided, the Clarence Red Devils defeated the Erie, Pennsylvania, Frost 7-6 to advance to the championship bracket contest. Silver While he was in the bracket, his two teams in North Tonawanda competed fiercely at School 7, where NT Jax-Whit defeated NT Jax-Shirouz 8-4.
Highlights of the weekend included hosts Chadwick Bey Fury’s victory over the 18-9 Hamburg Lady Dawgs in front of a packed stadium crowd on Friday night. The hosts were eliminated 6-4 in a hard-fought Sunday morning game against North Buffalo.
Wright Park was buzzing as teams found picnics and grills throughout the park.

“This weekend was a shining example of what youth sport should be like.” Tournament organizer Cory Ahlstrom added after Sunday night’s finale. “Teams competed hard in the intense heat and coaches, parents and spectators were respectful throughout the weekend.
