Chelsea Football Club head coach Thomas Tuchel was sacked Wednesday morning, one month before the Premier League season begins.
The announcement comes just three months after the new owners officially completed the acquisition. Tuchel’s 100th and final game in charge for Chelsea on Tuesday came in his 1-0 loss to GNK Dynamo his Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League.
According to Telegraph Sport, a replacement for Tuchel has already been identified. Anthony Barry, a highly regarded member of Chelsea’s backroom staff, is likely to take over temporarily until a replacement can be found.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to thank Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time at the club. will go down in Chelsea history by winning the Club World Cup,” Chelsea FC said in an official statement.
Sources say there were problems behind the scenes at Chelsea all summer, which Tuchel hinted at on occasion.
