Completely engulfed corpse found in New Canaan forest

A man’s body was found lying in the burning woods, police said.

New Canaan Police Department Lieutenant Jason Ferraro said officers were called to the scene off Lapham Road around 8:46 p.m. Wednesday following reports of a fire in the woods.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed a human body lying in the woods completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and helped put out the fire. The man was later confirmed dead.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing by the New Canaan Police Investigation Division in cooperation with the Western District of Connecticut Police Department Serious Crimes Investigation Unit and the Chief Coroner’s Office.

Ferraro says the incident appears to be isolated and has nothing to do with the Jennifer Duros case.

Investigators say preliminary evidence suggests the incident was most likely a suicide.

A silver SUV was also towed from the scene on Thursday.

Police have not identified the man found in the woods and are awaiting identification and notification to his family.
