At this time, we can only offer Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shots based on CDC guidance. The FDA and CDC continue to examine data to determine whether Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) recommend booster shots for his COVID-19 vaccine. We will have to wait for guidance to provide booster shots of these other vaccines.

Who Should Get Pfizer-BioNTech Booster Shots

CDC recommends that these groups receive a booster dose if they have completed the Pfizer-BioNTech primary vaccination series at least 6 months prior.

  • Over 65 years old
  • People living in nursing homes
  • 50-64 years old with underlying disease

Who Can Choose Pfizer-BioNTech Booster Shots?

CDC recommends that these groups may choose to receive a booster vaccination if they have completed the Pfizer-BioNTech primary vaccination series at least six months in advance.

  • 18 to 49 years of age with underlying medical conditions (based on individual benefit and risk); Also
  • People aged 18-64 who are at high risk of COVID-19 exposure and infection because of their work and institutional life (based on individual benefits and risks)

How to get booster shots in VA New Jersey

You can only get the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster by completing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine series. All vaccinations should be of the same type.

For veterans receiving veteran care

If the CDC recommends you get a booster injection of Pfizer-BioNTech, your local VA medical facility will contact you when your injection is due. This is six months after completing the first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine series. Bring your COVID-19 vaccination card when you pick up your booster.

The VA New Jersey COVID-19 vaccine clinic, which offers the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, is now offering boosters by appointment only.
