Dog breeder charged with 57 counts of animal neglect

On Friday morning, dozens of dogs were heard barking outside the 899 Greenville Turnpike as State Police and SPCA officials arrived with search warrants.

They say breeder Paul Poznerobis was found with two deceased Miniature Doberman Pinschers in the freezer of a Middletown home that had 57 dogs in dire condition.

Hudson Valley SPCA officials provided News with 12 exclusive photos showing how the dogs are kept.

“We have handled thousands of cases, and this house is absolutely the worst I have ever seen,” said Gene Hecht, Humanitarian Law Enforcement Officer for the Hudson Valley SPCA. “No water at all. He has two dead dogs in the refrigerator wrapped in plastic bags.”

It took rescuers over an hour to remove the dog.

They said their internal condition was so bad that it was difficult to breathe.

Poznerowiscz is accused of selling dogs without proper veterinary care.

Several animals have died in recent weeks, officials said.

“I never went to the vet,” said Hecht. “No one has ever been shot. Two dogs are blind and one dog has only three of his legs. So they all have to go to the vet.”

While there during a rescue operation, News 12 saw the owner outside and questioned him.

“What’s on your hand? Got blood on your hand?”

“Yes, dogs don’t like me,” said Poznerowysk. “They bit me. This isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.”

Poznerowiscz denies the dog was not cared for and says he was “poisoned” by dry food he bought at a store.

“I hope we can get them back,” Poznerowysk said.

Authorities have charged him with 57 counts of animal cruelty.

SPCA officials said they were at home last week and ordered Poznerowisz to bury two dogs they found in a freezer within 72 hours, but the dead animals were found on Friday with his frozen food. said.

The dog is currently in the custody of the Hudson Valley SPCA.

Poznerowiscz was given a court appearance ticket to appear in October.
