Missing dog found in Port Jefferson station house fire
Neighbors, friends and volunteers formed a search party to find Zeke, a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever mix.
Zeke’s 83-year-old owner, Catherine Davis, died in a house fire last month, leaving her 76-year-old husband, John Davis, in critical condition. John Davis also died from his injuries a few days after the fire.
Rescuers said a woman called on Thursday and said she had found Zeke. She continued to see him until they arrived about a mile from his former home.
Zeke was immediately taken to the vet, and News 12 said he was fine.
K9 Search and Rescue’s Eddie Stepinski says he is in stable condition but very scared.
The couple’s children, who didn’t want to talk on camera, reunite with Zeke and take him home when he is released.
“The family is thrilled that Zeke is safe and well in a safe environment,” said Erica Coetzing, hospital manager at Jefferson Animal Hospital. , it’s time to mourn your parents and celebrate the fact that Zeke is safe.”
Zeke suffered from dehydration and an infection, but will be released as soon as his family calms down.
