This weekend I had to check out an authentic Mexican restaurant that serves a wide variety of fresh seafood dishes. The name of the Mexican and seafood restaurant is called La Casa del Chivolin. The location is he at 2423 S. 6th St., next to St. Josaphat’s Church.
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Francisco, and his wife, Flor (which means flower in Spanish). I think it’s a very beautiful name. I also met my son, Francisco Jr.
Francisco said their restaurant has been open at this location for a year and a half. Francisco Jr.’s father was a comedy clown and a metal polisher for Harley-Davidsons. Francisco has been doing it for his 25 years, bringing home-made ceviche to his whole family and even going to clown comedy shows with them. From there, he is passionate about creating great food for residents, customers and many others in his community.
What I thought about the decor was that half of the restaurant with sea animals is sea themed and that kind of theme. Very well maintained, with booths and tables throughout the restaurant where large groups of family, friends and colleagues can sit, listen to karaoke and enjoy a meal, I believe.
Francisco and his wife Flor explained all the dishes very well and answered all my questions. His son was very nice and he knew a lot about seafood and Mexican food.
I ordered a cocktail from the bar while I was there. It’s a Mexican-style cocktail with mango called Mangonada. The cocktails I tried were very refreshing.
Francisco told us that their most popular dish is the Camerones Boataneros, which can be shared. Camerones Boataneros are spicy shrimp with delicious seasonings.
The tortilla chips, sauces and tortillas are all homemade. I have tried all the sauces as I am trying all the Mexican and Seafood dishes. These sauces included house sauce, tamarin sauce and sweet and spicy sauce.
I tried the Camerones Botaneros. It is to peel the shrimp and eat it. I devoured most of the shrimp. I love having my fingers messy while eating food.
I also took a picture of the seafood tower with shrimp, octopus and aguachiles ceviche.
I also took a picture of the 6 pack of beer with the shrimp appetizer. I have never seen a dish so impressive. Next time I go back there, I will ask my friends to come and share. It looked super huge!
For my main course meal, I tried the steak burrito topped with sliced tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and salsa. Thought it was very well presented.
The sliced steak in the huge burrito is soft. That’s how I absolutely enjoy steak. What I found very interesting was the cucumbers came with my steak burrito, rice and refried beans. Those cucumbers were very fresh and mixed well with the rice and refried beans. You can’t go wrong with a steak burrito.
If you ever go to La Casa De Chivolin, I highly recommend ordering the Camerones botaneros. I would like to thank Francisco Jr., Francisco and Flor for welcoming me to their Mexican and seafood restaurant and making it a positive experience. In fact, I learned a new word, Bienvenidos, which means welcome in Spanish. We had someone sing Happy Birthday to us and many restaurants joined us. It’s such a fun place.
Karaoke will continue after 9pm in the backseat area. It’s so much fun to hear them sing. Francisco Jr also said that part of the current menu is in Spanish and that he is working on getting an English menu out soon, and until then the staff will be happy to help with the menu. He said. We had no problem finding delicious items to try.
