Forbes named Duke University and Duke University Health System among North Carolina’s 2022 “Best Employers in the State.”
Duke University ranked 10th and the health system 11th among 100 employers in North Carolina, according to the rankings released Wednesday.

Forbes, in collaboration with statistical partner Statista, conducted an independent survey of 70,000 US employees working for companies with more than 500 employees in the US.
Forbes and Statista created a ranking based on how employees rated their willingness to recommend their employer to friends and family. Survey participants were asked to rate what stood out, good or bad, in other employers in their area and in their respective industries.
Survey respondents were asked to answer 52 questions on work-related topics such as working conditions, diversity, salary, development potential, company image, and opinions on the response to the coronavirus pandemic. .
“This shows that the hard work our current employees are doing is being recognized nationally,” Lofton said. “And people outside of Duke University, outside of Durham, North Carolina, are noticing that we have a very good Duke brand.”
Forbes and Statista surveys were conducted on companies across all industry sectors. The number of employers awarded in each state varies from 3 to he 101, depending on the employers involved and the size of the state’s workforce.
In 2022, Duke University and Duke University Health System were named Forbes “Best Employers.” In 2021, Duke University and Duke University Health System were also named to the Forbes Best Employers for Women list.
