Greater Bridgeport Transit issued a public apology today after a family member said an adult with Down syndrome was dropped off at the wrong address.
Gloria Roman said she was dropped off at her home in Stratford while her brother Noel Roman, 44, who is her legal guardian, was being transported from her job at Goodwill in Bridgeport.
Roman wondered where Noel was for about two hours when he lived with her in Bridgeport and didn’t come home on time.
Luckily, Noel was sent to the home of a colleague with special needs, and when that person came home with his father, they recognized Noel and took him home.
“We don’t want this to happen to another individual. Noel is mentally handicapped and has no travel skills. He is uncommunicative and unclear. If he is without someone’s attention If left alone for a long time, he could walk away and get run over by a car,” Roman says.
Holcomb says he’s taking steps to ensure such mistakes don’t happen again.
