Hackettstown, N.J. – Hackettstown police say an officer was attacked while attending a welfare check.
It happened around 11:20 pm on Wednesday at a house on the 300 block of Washington Street.
According to police, while talking to the 66-year-old female resident, the 35-year-old male resident climbed onto the roof of the porch, waved a tire iron and a small handle object, and began yelling at officers.
According to officials, the man threw several items at the officers who responded and did not leave the residence.
According to police release, the man went up to the third floor and blocked the stairwell. The man then began throwing glass and other household items through a third-floor window at officers and patrol cars.
The Warren County Tactical Team was called in and attempted to negotiate with the men, without success at that point.
Police said the woman was asked to cooperate but did not comply. She resisted leaving her residence, was argumentative and yelled at.
A tactical team broke into the house and the man was taken into custody around 2:40 a.m.
The man was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, criminal conduct, disorderly conduct, and obstructing arrest.
He was released pending court appearance and taken to Hackettstown Medical Center.
The woman was charged with obstructing law enforcement and released pending court appearance.
