

Minnesotans who are behind on their mortgages and facing foreclosure due to financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic can now apply for government assistance through the new HomeHelpMN program. Applications for assistance began on Tuesday, May 17 at his HomeHelpMN.org. The application period is until June 17th.
Minnesota received $109 million from the Federal American Rescue Plan to help homeowners keep up with their mortgage payments.
You must own and occupy a home in Minnesota to be eligible for the program. Eligibility is based on county median household income and varies by county. In her seven-county metropolitan area of Minnesota, those limits are $90,000 for her single, $93,850 for a couple, and $117,300 for a family of four.

“Many households were already on the verge of being one paycheck behind even before the pandemic,” said Jennifer Ho of the Minnesota Housing Commission in a news release. “Many Minnesotans are behind on their mortgages. Many are facing foreclosure.
Ho said demand for funds was expected to be higher than what was available and encouraged those in need to apply as soon as possible.
Homeowners have a contract for payment of mortgage bills and deeds, manufactured mortgage payments, property taxes, homeowners association fees, property insurance, leases of manufactured residential land and tribal land. Get assistance up to $35,000 for eligible late costs, including lease payments.
Payments are made directly to the mortgage lender or creditor.
Applications can be submitted online at Home-HelpMN.org or by calling 800-388-3226. The website and application are available in English, Spanish, Somali, Hmong and other languages. Callers will be asked to select a language and will be connected to an interpreter if they prefer a language other than English. Call center hours are 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Minnesota Housing said applicants may be placed on a waiting list if the applications received during the application period exceed available funding. It warns that it does not guarantee sex.
