Indianapolis shooting today: Three Dutch soldiers open fire outside a downtown hotel

Indianapolis — Local police believe there was a disturbance outside the hotel where they were staying, officials said.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. EDT in the Indianapolis entertainment district. Indianapolis police said officers found three men with gunshot wounds and took them to an area hospital.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense said one soldier was in critical condition and two others were conscious, while police in Indianapolis said two of the soldiers were in critical condition and a third was in stable condition. .

The three soldiers are members of the Special Forces and were in Indiana for training when the shooting took place in their free time in front of the hotel they were staying at, the ministry said.

Indianapolis police believe that some sort of altercation between the three victims and another person led to the shooting.

The department said it had notified the families of the shooting victims while Indianapolis police continued to investigate the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

The Indiana National Guard said the soldiers were training at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, a 1,000-acre (405-hectare) complex about 40 miles (65 km) southeast of Indianapolis. Gard said in a statement that the center is being used for training “as well as other allies” for the Department of Defense.

WXIN-TV reported that the Dutch soldiers visited Indianapolis at the end of their mission.
