Toronto – (business wire)–Stephanie Eagletail Designs, a Canadian fashion label specializing in bespoke blanket coats inspired by Indigenous heritage and the traditions of its founders, will have its first runway showcase in New York City. The eponymous label, designed and led by Stephanie Crowchild, a native of Tuutina in the Treaty 7 area near Calgary, Alberta, will open to a global audience at Studio Arte as part of RISE New York Fashion Week (RISE NYFW). We will announce a collection of 10 points for — A dynamic platform designed to highlight the work of talented emerging designers.
Each item unveiled on the runway is inspired by Crowchild’s Aboriginal culture and family, including her Kokum and Chapan (Crowchild’s traditional Cree grandmother and great-grandmother), suggestive. Crafted using upcycled wool fabrics such as the rich HBC Multistripe Point Blanket. It is rooted in Canada’s complex history of Indigenous peoples and settlers.
“My late grandfather, Fred Eagletail, often wore a Hudson Bay blanket coat when he attended events in Calgary. I discovered the collection,” says Stephanie Crowchild. “In his honor, I inspired him to create my own version of an item that represents HBC’s past with indigenous peoples as a way to decolonize it. I am very honored to represent the community.”
