Jeep crashes into store row in Union, N.J., driver killed


Union, New Jersey (WABC) — A car crashed early Wednesday morning in New Jersey, killing the driver.

It happened at 3:12 am at 1500 block Morris Avenue in Union.

Police said the 2015 Jeep Wrangler flew over a curb and hit several signs, pillars and fixtures in front of a row of shops.

Overhead video from NewsCopter 7 showed extensive damage to the vehicle and debris littering a long stretch of sidewalk.

Elizabeth’s driver, identified as 72-year-old Theodore Hagg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said no one else was in the jeep at the time of the accident and no one else was injured.

It was not immediately clear what had led to the crash.

Morris Avenue/Route 82 was closed in both directions for about 5 hours just east of Garden State Parkway and Route 22 due to a police investigation.
