Jersey City Councilman involved in hit-and-run accident with cyclist


A Jersey City Councilman was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident involving a bicycle.

According to public reports, City Councilman Amy DeGuise was driving her SUV on Martin Luther King Boulevard when she collided with a cyclist and continued driving. The incident was caught on surveillance cameras.

The video shows a cyclist standing up and walking out of an intersection. The video also shows that the cyclist appeared to have passed a red light at the time of the crash.

The cyclist was identified as Andrew Black. He spoke with his HudPost. He told his HudPost that he worked for his UberEats and was attacked while trying to pick up a delivery.

“I looked to my left and suddenly I heard ‘bar’. I was hit… I tossed and turned, and it really hurt. Luckily, the people around me were very kind to me,” Black said.

Black also commented on the allegations against DeGise.

“People of renown have fallen to the point of ignoring the law or whatever they call it demanding to protect and keep our streets clean, and that they do it themselves.” I couldn’t even, and it really upset me,” Black said.

The New Jersey Globe reports that DeGise was issued a subpoena for leaving the scene of the accident and failing to report it.
