Austin, Texas — Austin Pride is a time of celebration, but it’s also a time of education.
Kind Clinic is one of the community organizations that manages sexual health and education resources specifically for Austin’s LGBTQ community.
Stephen Tamayo, Director of Community Health for Texas Health Action, attended the KVUE Daybreak to talk about Kind Clinic’s efforts.
Yvonne Nava: Let’s talk about the services Kind Clinic provides. Can anyone get the resource?
Stephen Tamayo: “Kind Clinic provides free access to an HIV preventive drug called PrEP or pre-exposure prophylaxis, PEP which is post-exposure prophylaxis, HIV testing and care, STI testing and treatment, and sexual health care. A clinic that specializes in healthcare for LGBTQIA+ members but is open to anyone. [community]. Anyone can enter. ”
Nava: Do I need insurance to get all this?
Tamayo: “No way. We see patients regardless of insurance status and all services are completely free. and make sure medication is the lowest cost – to our patients, or in most cases free of charge.”
Nava: I noticed you guys are doing virtual visitAre they as effective as in-person visits? how do you do that?
Tamayo: “In short, TeleKind is a statewide telemedicine program that offers many of the same services that are available in person at Kind Clinics. People seeking sexual health services in addition to the specialized care we provide may be stigmatized or stigmatized by those seeking services.”
Nava: If someone is looking for sex, gender, identity, or other health-related resources, how does Kind Clinic teach and provide those resources?
Tamayo: “We believe our website is a great resource for those with access to technology. recovering from experience or substance use or living with HIV.They can navigate the patient care system and direct the resources they need in the right direction.”
Nava: Where is the clinic?
Tamayo: “Austin has two clinics. One is at 101 W. Koenig Lane and the other is down South at 2800 I-35.”
