The meeting gave concerned residents an opportunity to comment on proposals to charge drivers entering Manhattan from places such as the Lincoln Tunnel and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Expect tolls to be anywhere from $9 to $23 in certain areas at various times of the day.
The program could start as early as next year.
Opinions on the proposal are mixed. A recent environmental report found that installing toll booths encourages more people to use public transport and reduces pollution.
Some strongly disagree with the idea.
“You are not dealing with the increase in crime on subways and buses. We have no plans to address it. It’s a subway and bus problem,” said Colette Vogel, a Manhattan resident.
Today was the last public hearing, but the plan still needs approval from the Federal Highway Administration.
