Singer-songwriter, producer and advocate MILCK has teamed up with Bianco, Grammy Award winner Autumn Law and Ani DiFranco to produce an urgent new protest song.we won’t be backCreated in response to the overthrow of the Roe v. Released on August 18, 2022, the new music video is directed by Jen Rosentein, who has worked with artists such as Jason Mraz, Pentatonix and Jennifer Hudson, and features comedian Sarah Rose Hyland (MTV Punk’d, Mad TV) with all the artists who made ‘We Won’t Go Back’. Featuring the faces of MILCK and her collaborators imprinted on famous artworks of women throughout history, such as the Mona Lisa and Aphrodite, It is a visual of strength and unity that alludes to the impact of important decisions in today’s society. The decision could forever change the trajectory of progress and set back the efforts of generations of activists with swift political decisions.
“We Won’t Go Back” kicked off in DC the day after Politico leaked about Roe v. Wade. This eliminates the constitutional right to abortion. MILCK took part in a rally where hundreds of people gathered to protest and the cathartic and powerful chant “We won’t go back!”
That night, MILCK took audio recordings from the protest and created a sample that would soon become a song. She shared it on her social media and provided the audio to the community with the intention of others contributing their voices and stories. “Community is the solution to most problems, and this song was no exception,” says MILCK, who documented the creation and release of the song on social media. “We Won’t Go Back” is a full-circle moment for MILCK, who became known worldwide for his viral performance of “Quiet” at the Women’s March five years ago. “Quiet” became the unofficial anthem of the movement, was named Billboard’s No. 1 Protest Song, and was selected for NPR’s American Anthem Series. MILCK has since founded The Somebody’s Beloved Fund, a group of 10 grassroots beneficiaries who use her music to build power on racial justice, feminism, LGBTQIA+ rights, criminal justice reform and mental health.
