New Jersey reports 954 COVID cases and 13 deaths. Transmission speeds continue to decline.

New Jersey health officials reported Monday that 954 more COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths have been confirmed as infection rates continue to decline.

The statewide infection rate was 0.79 on Monday, down from 0.82 on Friday, officials reported. An infection rate of 1 means that the number of cases has plateaued, and a rate below 1 means that outbreaks are declining.

The state’s seven-day average of confirmed positive tests was 1,472, down 16% from a week ago and down 29% from a month ago.

The CDC considers seven states – Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem – to have “high” community levels of coronavirus. The remaining 14 counties have a community level of Medium. According to the CDC, the number of cases and hospitalizations by region determines the community level of each county.

On Sunday night, 68 of 70 hospitals in New Jersey reported 1,378 confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases. Of the hospitalized patients, 152 are in intensive care units and 60 are on ventilators.

The statewide positive rate for tests conducted on Wednesday, the latest day for which data are available, was 11.28%.

The CDC considers a positivity rate of over 10% to be “high.” New Jersey’s statewide positivity rate is significantly lower than its 40.83% peak on January 1, 2022, the peak of the Omicron variant.
