Huntsville, Alabama (WHNT) — News 19 is working with several local businesses to put together an initiative with a mission to “bury the food banks” and feed Northern Alabama.
Food banks in North Alabama say they are struggling to keep food on their shelves. It’s a call to action.
Beginning on Blitzkrieg Day, Thursday, August 18, the “Fill the Food Bank” campaign will gather shelf-stable and canned goods at the Walmart Supercenter located at 11610 Memorial Parkway SW, Huntsville, Ala. 35803. We are the only Walmart store accepting donations.
Suggested food donations include peanut butter, healthy cereals, canned protein and meats, and shelf-stable milk.
After the Blitz Day event, you can still make food or monetary donations at the North Alabama Food Bank at 2000 Vernon Avenue SW in Huntsville or at your local Alabama Credit Union branch.
Those locations are:
Huntsville
- 4769 Whitesburg Drive #102
- 851 John Wright Drive NW University of Alabama
- 1415 Paramount Drive
Madison
Decatur
News 19’s drive partners include Alabama Credit Union, Alfa Insurance, Van Valkenburgh & Wilkinson Properties and iHeartRadio HSV.
If you can’t donate in person, text “HUNGER” to 256-559-3299 or donate online here.
