The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the deaths of three Amazon workers at an Amazon facility in New Jersey.
In the past few weeks, all workers have died on the job.
The first fatality occurred on Prime Day, July 13th, at the Carteret Fulfillment Center. The 42-year-old Rafael Frias died of cardiac arrest. His family says the conditions in the warehouse contributed to his heart attack.
However, Amazon does its own research. The company said it does not believe the death was a work-related accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and extend our condolences to their families and friends. We are providing resources to families and employees who need them,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
A second fatality occurred on July 24 at the Robbinsville facility. The worker reportedly fell and hit his head. He died at the Monroe facility on August 4, 1 of 3. The cause of death has not been revealed. The names of the two employees have not been released.
Carteret Center workers are not unionized. However, such incidents may prompt employees to consider forming a union.
