PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency | VA New Jersey Healthcare

The VA New Jersey Health Care System PGY-1 Pharmacy Practicum Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). It prepares residents for the clinical pharmacy practice of direct patient care. Our program focuses on ambulatory care pharmacy practice with a number of clinical pharmacy professionals serving as leaders with a range of practices with prescribing privileges. Residents have the opportunity to tour many pharmacist-run clinics, including primary care, infectious diseases, and anticoagulation.

The program is designed to enhance residents’ skills in direct patient care, medication administration, clinical pharmacy practice, and leadership. Residents develop the clinical and communication skills necessary to provide direct patient care.

As integral members of a multidisciplinary patient care team, residents use pharmacotherapeutic expertise and clinical judgment to improve patient outcomes. A learning experience built on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education develops well-rounded pharmacists with skills in critical thinking, project management, leadership, and oral and written communication.
