PITTSBURGH — Passing untouched past the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line and stomping on an unsuspecting Drew Lock, linebacker Mark Robinson wasn’t thinking of letting the ball loose. He was just about to tackle, but instead leveled the game-changing hit, giving the Pittsburgh Steelers a second chance to win their preseason opener.
“I was trying to focus on getting the ball carrier,” Robinson said after the game.
Robinson’s sack and forced fumble came just after the Steelers turned the ball down in their own half with 1:15 left in a game tied at 25. Kenny Pickett and company mulliganed well and scored the game-winning touchdown with seconds left in the fourth quarter clock.
The crowd, already fueled by the debut of Pickett, the team’s 2021 first-round pick, was further fueled by seventh-round pick Robinson and his brutal sack. He noticed an unusually high energy in the final frame of his preseason game.
“It felt great,” Robinson said. “We are at home. It helped my team back on top and win, so that’s all.”
A convert from running back, Robinson called himself a “linebacker at heart” and proved it in his play. He was then attacked by a host of veterans on the sidelines.
“They loved it,” said Robinson. “They are my friends, so whenever I get a chance to go out and do good, they know he has my back 1,000 percent. That’s our team.”
The turning point he created was a special moment, and Robinson credits his coaches and teammates with helping him create it. , examined the fact after the match.
“I came here trying to learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible,” Robinson said. “Veteran and coach Flores are doing a great job, so I’m really happy to be here.”
