Police are investigating online threats to JK Rowling.

The author of “Harry Potter” sent a message of congratulations to Sir Salman Rushdie on Twitter shortly after he was attacked on stage in New York State.

Rowling, 57, initially tweeted, “Horrible news. I feel so bad right now. Let him be okay.”

However, in response, a Twitter user said:

JK, who has more than 13 million followers on the platform, later shared a screenshot of the threat and called on Twitter to take action.

She wrote: “Is there any possibility of TwitterSupport?

“Thank you to everyone who sent messages of support. [heart emojis] Police involved (already involved in other threats). (as original)”

Rowling also questioned whether Twitter was strict enough in enforcing its guidelines.

She said: “TwitterSupport These are your guidelines, right?” It also bans the glorification of violence… “Terrorism/Violent Extremism: Do not threaten or promote terrorism …” (sic)”

Now, a police spokesperson has confirmed that an “investigation” is underway after the incident was brought to their attention.

A Scottish Police spokeswoman said: “We have received reports of online threats being made and officers are investigating.”

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the company behind the Harry Potter films, has condemned the threat.

The company said in a statement:

“Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family following the senseless violence in New York. , violence or intimidation.”
