Stratford celebrates International Overdose Awareness Day with ceremony

The Stratford community came together on Friday to honor the countless lives lost to drug overdoses.

Stratford officials held an International Overdose Awareness Day ceremony at City Hall on Friday.

In 2021, 11 residents died from unintentional overdoses in Stratford, and 6 have died so far in 2022.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more than 107,000 people across the United States will die from drug overdoses in 2021.

The event took place just days before International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st.

“Even if you think you can’t do anything, just pointing someone in the right direction or sharing other resources can get you on the right track,” said Stratford Mayor Laura Huidick. There is.”

The annual campaign aims to end overdoses, remember those who have died without blame, and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind. Through our event, we hope to spread the message that drug overdoses are preventable and inspire action.
