The Suffolk County Animal Cruelty Prevention Society is offering a $5,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Eurasian lynx owners.
The Eurasian lynx was captured by Suffolk County Police on July 29 after roaming the streets of central Islip for three days.
Large cats are one of many dangerous animals listed in New York state environmental regulations.
Possession of these animals is prohibited in New York without special permission from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Releasing animals into the environment is also illegal and can result in arrest and fines.
