Law enforcement officials say being prepared for any situation is a priority to stay safe.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office has held free shooting drills over the past two days, especially for religious and community leaders.
Sheriff Darin Russo said:
Religious leaders say this kind of training is important because places of worship are usually open to the public and they want to be welcome but safe.
Pastor Caroline Jinkins of the Lamington Presbyterian Church said, “In this day and age, we must be mindful of our surroundings…we are an open and welcoming space and we want everyone to come to church.” I can.
Deputy Sheriff Tim Pino says the training will help everyone see what law enforcement officers experience in active shooting situations.
“What we’re trying to show over the last two days is law enforcement response, so they’re really thinking deep down about what’s going on on the other side… that it’s important for peace of mind.” I think,” he said. he says.
Law enforcement officers use robots to get the job done in dangerous situations where they don’t want to send a SWAT operator.
“In the event of a threat, an aggressive shooter-type situation, we can send in a robot to deal with the threat or assess the situation,” says Pino.
The sheriff’s office also has a K-9 unit that can detect bombs, drugs, and missing persons.
