Three suspects were spotted breaking into multiple mailboxes at the Mount Vernon building.
Building manager Vince Force told News 12 that the three suspects buzzed into the building and went straight to the mailbox. They were able to open them and receive all the mail they found.
Forth, who has overseen Mount Vernon’s Rich Avenue for 26 years, says it’s the first time he’s seen anything like it in his own building. He says neighbors need to be on the lookout for anyone entering the building. He says residents shouldn’t make noise if they don’t expect anyone.
“They’re in this lobby area for a few minutes, waiting in and out of the door for someone to come in, open the door, and fail that, they’ll ring a series of bells. Here it is,” Force said.
Force added that he first saw the perpetrator go to the second mailbox area while reviewing surveillance video with the News 12 crew.
“We turned the cameras back and realized they were back in the main lobby and went to the A side,” he said.
Force called the Mount Vernon Police who soon showed up and were also told that this was a federal investigation as the Postal Service was involved.
Anyone with information on the three suspects will be asked to call the police.
