The village of Cold Spring faces a water crisis as drought continues to worsen across the Hudson Valley.
Officials posted on their Facebook page that the village’s water supply capacity is currently at about 45%. This is less than half the normal level for all three municipal reservoirs.
In addition, there are the following water restrictions.
• Use the minimum amount of water necessary for household and hygiene purposes. Keep showers short. Turn off the faucet when washing dishes or brushing your teeth. Skip flushing the toilet when reasonable.
• Do not water landscapes or gardens unless your land has private irrigation systems that do not use municipal water.
• Do not wash cars or buildings.
• Strictly limit refilling in pools and hot tubs. Do not use sprinklers or hoses for water play.
• Businesses and industries must use the minimum amount of water reasonably necessary to carry out their operations.
They stress that violations will result in a citation and fine.
Additionally, the risk of fire is very high. Cold Spring Fire Company is urging residents and business owners to refrain from lighting outdoor fires for any purpose and to exercise extreme caution when engaging in activities such as grilling. Fireworks for Community Day on September 3 have been canceled due to dry weather.
