Website ranks Jersey City as the highest rent city in the US


Jersey City is the most expensive city to rent a home in the United States, according to a report conducted by property listing service Rent.com.

Jersey City ranked first on this list, followed by Boston and Palo Alto, California.

“I think getting out of New York City and across the river made some sense,” said John Mercedal of Fresno, California.

Jersey City average rents jumped from $3,308 in 2021 to $5,500 in 2022, an increase of 66.25%.

Bayonne ranks 34th, the only other city in New Jersey to make the list. The average renter writes checks for $3,101 each month.
