It was announced on Friday morning that the Premier League would not play its scheduled matches this weekend, with most top-flight clubs already making plans.
Of course, this includes preparing the catering for the weekend’s games. The club will also reserve casual matchday staff for matches to work in retail, catering and steward positions.
athletic We spoke with each of the Premier League clubs that were scheduled to play at home to find out what they are doing after their matches have been postponed.
fulham vs chelsea
Food from Craven Cottage will be donated through the Fulham Foundation to City Harvest, a food redistribution charity in London, to local charities, food banks and people in needy communities. No food is wasted.
Some casual staff are already working on game prep and will be paid. Fulham is not responsible for contracted staff (on a matchday or casual basis) but will bear the costs.
arsenal vs everton
Casual staff are paid to spend match days at Arsenal. As a result, they will not be paid for Saturday’s game.
Arsenal catering contractors will store as much product as possible in their freezers as the next game is scheduled for Thursday. Food that cannot be stored will be donated to local projects.
Leicester City vs Aston Villa
Those who plan to work casually at King Power Stadium for this weekend’s game will be paid when they work in the readjusted game.
Most foods are perishable and cannot be transported. Anything non-perishable can be donated to a local food bank or community project to feed the homeless.
Southampton vs Brentford
Playing regrouped matches rewards casual staff.
Southampton donated all food used in the match to charity. One collection has already received food, while another is expected to arrive by the end of Friday.
Southampton are looking forward to next week’s round and are gearing up to face Villa. Their team trains on Friday, has a recovery session on Saturday and a rest day on Sunday.
Bournemouth vs Brighton
Bournemouth will not be paying their temporary staff this weekend, but they will be paid to work in the rescheduled match.
All food not used in Saturday’s game will be donated to local charities.
West Ham United vs Newcastle United
The London Stadium, which provides food and casual staff for West Ham games, athletic.
manchester city vs tottenham hotspur
City will pay casual staff the full amount for their allotted time in both the men’s and women’s games this weekend.
Perishable food is redistributed to local organizations.
crystal palace vs manchester united
Norwood Food Bank collected over 100 kilograms of fruit and vegetables from Selhurst Park this afternoon. City Harvest also picked up some fresh produce and baked goods to distribute in food parcels.
Casual staff may end up working with the reorganized game.
Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Liverpool suspended meal prep on Thursday, which saved them quite a bit of potential waste.
Donations will also be sent to the local community starting at 9am on Friday morning and will be distributed all day tomorrow, including a trolley of 30 freshly baked sandwiches.
Friday donations are to:
- Whitechapel Center for the Homeless
- Victory Outreach Youth Hostel
- L30 Community Center
- Two Anfield schools
- Fans supporting the food bank
- L6 Community Center
Casual staff are not paid for postponed games on Saturdays, but are paid for postponed game days.
Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest
Leeds provided the Leeds United Supporters Trust with food allotted for Monday night. They will also provide pre-purchased food for the team and pre-game meals for top team staff.
Leeds have said agency staff are under contract for 19 home games in the season and will be paid for that number under agreement as Forest games are scheduled to be rearranged.
