Trenton, NJ (July 18, 2022) – The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has approved the purchase of 109.4 acres of land. new jersey windport Located in Lower Alloways Creek, Salem County. The approval was given at a board meeting last week.
The New Jersey Wind Farm is the nation’s first infrastructure investment to provide a location for significant staging, assembly and manufacturing activities associated with offshore wind projects on the East Coast. When fully built, the wind farm could create up to 1,500 manufacturing, assembly and operations jobs and return billions of dollars of economic growth to the New Jersey economy.
Phase 1 of the wind farm will break ground in September 2021, with marshalling activities expected to begin in early 2024. The purchase of 109.4 acres of land from NDEV LLC, a subsidiary of PSEG Power, will enable and expand Phase 2 of the proposed project. The port has a total footprint of over 220 acres and can simultaneously support the marshalling of two wind projects and up to three co-located manufacturing facilities.

Expanding marshalling capacity will also help alleviate the current shortage of fit-for-purpose port capacity across the region, Sullivan said, allowing states above and below the east coast of the United States to build wind power on time and in a cost-effective manner. He added that it will help him reach his goals.
The 109.4-acre site is located just north of the site NJEDA has leased from PSEG Nuclear to develop Phase 1 of NJ Wind Port. It is currently licensed as a Closed Disposal Facility (CDF) and the permitting process will soon begin to allow for port expansion. The purchase from NDEV LLC was at a negotiated price of $24.25 million.
New Jersey has pledged to use union labor to build the New Jersey Wind Port and requires developers and contractors to pay prevailing wages. The state is also working to set new standards for the inclusion of women- and minority-owned businesses during construction of the New Jersey Wind Port. NJEDA has established a requirement that at least 25% of port construction subcontractors are small businesses and at least 15% are women, minority or veteran-owned. The project also includes a workforce diversity goal of 18% people of color and her 6.9% women.
NJEDA plans to begin tenant selection for plots of the property in the coming months.
